While many of the rest of the team was showing pure jubilation about their impressive accomplishments so far, there was only Paul Coffey who seemed to be standing there only thinking of the next round. Of course, Coffey is a guy who's been there and done that, and he acted like he's been here before.
It's safe to say that Coffey knows what it takes to win as he was drafted by the Oilers in 1980 and help the team win 3 Stanley cups throughout his time with the organization. He also took home the cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the early 90s along with three Norris trophies and many other accolades added to his name.
Since arriving as the new assistant coach who oversaw defense, the Oilers had a dramatic turn around in their defensive play and position in the standings as the team went from 31st overall in late November two ninth overall in the league with 104 points in 49 wins.
Coffey worked with his defenseman along with other players in teaching them how to play defensive hockey especially during the playoffs as they have learned how to smother teams which was unheard of only a few years ago.
The Oilers now have the week to prepare themselves to face their toughest opponent who are the Florida Panthers who have been dominant through these playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Game one wall be on Saturday June 8th and game time will be at 8:00 PM eastern.
