Throughout the Oilers-Canucks series, there was a few incidents where fans went a little too hard at each other than is acceptable in a rivalry. Many Canucks fans online were vulgar, cheering injuries, and blaming officiating through the series. On the other hand, the Dallas Stars once played La Bamba by mistake, and then promptly donated tens of thousands to the Ben Stelter Foundation.
Former Oiler and current Sportsnet broadcaster Luke Gazdic went off against Canucks fan in a recent interview with OilersNation Everyday. Gazdic ripped apart Canucks fans participating in online trolling and hatred, something that continued even past the second round.
Gazdic ruthlessly tore into the hate he's been receiving from Canucks fans online, and rightfully so. Harassing others online and making things personal is never the right move, and there's been far too much of it from hockey fans this playoffs. For this rant though, Canucks fans are calling for Gazdic to apologize, or Sportsnet to take action.
Clearly, the great Canadian rivalry of Edmonton and Vancouver still lives on, but the rivalry with the Dallas Stars was much more respectful. If these two teams meet in the playoffs again next year, it could become even more heated than it was this season.
