According to Oilers insider Jim Parsons, a rift may be forming between Oilers forward Evander Kane and the organization over a serious injury.

«What makes him such a wild card is that it's hard to read from day to day and interview to interview where Kane stands health wise. CEO Jeff Jackson mentioned an «issue with his hip,» and the nature of his injury and recovery path remains unclear. Meanwhile, Kane called it a «sports hernia» that was bugging him most of last season. Is it a hip? Is it a hernia? Is it a bit of both? Do either keep him out to the point he's unreliable?

This back and forth has soured the relationship between the Oilers and Kane. His decline in play down the stretch and into the playoffs as several Oilers teammates were having discussions and sometimes arguments with Kane on the plays he was making and how it affected their game.

It's important to note that no matter the injury, it seems that Kane is heading for another tough season and maybe sitting out for the long term as the organization and their doctors determine the best course of action for Kane.

Some have suggested the Oilers were willing to trade him to free up his $5.125 million cap hit which will remain for the next two years. If he is unable to play, he will likely go on to LTIR and the Oilers will recoup the money anyway.

It seems that both parties are moving away from one another and a potential parting of ways may occur sooner rather than later.
