Both hosts feel that the Oilers will give broberg and Darnell nurse a decent stretch of games to see if the chemistry they were building in the playoffs can translate into the regular season. The Oilers sample size was small and many pundits feel that Broberg is ready to take the next step in his career.
The Oilers are hoping that this is the case as they are currently cap strapped and are looking to upgrade their defense without sacrificing too much up front or in their draft picks.
One stumbling block currently is that Broberg does not have a contract, and fans are wondering on what's newly appointed general manager Stan Bowman and President Jeff Jackson feel about the young defenseman.
He was drafted by the Oilers in 2019, first round 8th overall. Over the course of last season many teams called the Oilers to seek out the cost in order to acquire Broberg in a trade. The Oilers refused and he became part of their defense corps for their Stanley Cup run.
The 23-year-old defenseman is a restricted free agent without any arbitration rights. The team holds most of the negotiating control and will likely seek a solution with his representation. The team would also like to resolve this quickly as they want to stave off any attempt to make to teams to send an offer sheet to Broberg.
It remains to be seen on how this will all play out but I feel the team will come to an agreement for Broberg and give him a chance with Darnell Nurse.
