Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks has been floated in trade rumours for quite some time now, and now an NHL Analyst has revealed why.

According to Stu Grimson on NHL Network, Ducks GM Pat Verbeek has a number of concerns with the young star he inherited, including his maturity and defensive game. Grimson pointed out that Verbeek inherited Zegras from the previous Ducks front office, and the GM has no commitment to him.

I think there's a bit of a maturity to evolve his where is game is concerned on the defensive side of the puck. I don't know that given a blank canvas Pat Verbeek grabs Zegras.

Zegras was drafted ninth overall by the Ducks in the 2019 Draft, and has already played over 200 career NHL games. He's known for his offensive talents and creative dekes, but it hasn't translated to elite offensive production yet - topping out at only two seasons over 60 points. With other concerns about his overall game, many fans are starting to reduce their expectations for Zegras.

However, there's undeniable talent in Zegras, and he's still a valuable piece on a roster and even for a trade. If the Ducks don't see him as a core player on their roster moving forward, they will surely be able to trade him and get a significant return. With many of their prospects starting to break through to the NHL roster now, the Ducks could be eying playoff contention sooner rather than later.
