On the latest episode of the Jason Gregor Show it's suggested that Oilers rookie defenseman Philip Broberg could seek a multi-year extension in a new deal.

Oilers Nation podcast host Tyler Yaremchuk discussed his thoughts with Gregor on how the Oilers will be able to fit all of their youngsters including everyone who was signed during the offseason. It seems the Oilers have a couple of options where they could send Derek Ryan and Josh Brown off the roster that could lead players like Broberg to score a two-year deal.

A bridge contract could be a solid option for the Oilers and Broberg as the team is trying to seek out whether Broberg is who they think he is.

The 23-year-old defender who stands at six foot 3 and 213 pounds was selected in the 2019 entry draft, first round 8th overall. Many have felt that he needs more time with Bakersfield condors while others think he is ready to secure a roster spot for next season.

For the Oilers to fit everyone into their salary cap a team-friendly deal will need to be struck with Broberg as he has just completed his entry level contract at 863,000 per season. It remains to be seen on whether they would go a two-year pact or a one-year pact and see if he will stand out.

The Oilers have some maneuvering to do as they are over the salary cap limit and still have two roster spots to lock up.
