According to rumours surfacing online from Billy Stefan, the Edmonton Oilers have settled on Mark Hunter as the next General Manager of the team, with Stan Bowman likely on in an advisory role.

Hunter is one of the most prolific people in hockey currently outside of the NHL. His resume includes several years as Director of Player Personnel and Assistant GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well as his more recent job of owning and operating the London Knights.

Stefan's report also includes Stan Bowman joining the Oilers as a special advisor. Bowman has also been heavily connected to the Oilers for the GM role, but plenty of fans have been in uproar about hiring someone at the head of the Chicago Blackhawks Kyle Beach scandal. Hiring Bowman in any capacity would be extremely disappointing for the goodwill the team has generated with their great playoff run this year, and a confusing move from Jeff Jackson. Mark Hunter wouldn't be a fantastic hire, but a fine option in comparison to Bowman.

Jeff Jackson recently revealed on the Bob McCowan Podcast earlier this week that the Oilers would aim to hire a general manager in the next week, and interviews have already taken place. With contracts of Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid, and Evan Bouchard soon to be signed, the next general manager hire of the Oilers will be incredibly important - the right decision, and the team could be able to create another dynasty in Edmonton.
