Vancouver Canucks sign 20 goal scorer to crazy value contract
Moments ago, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Vancouver Canucks have officially signed Daniel Sprong to a one year contract for only $975K.
The 27 year old right winger has been an underrated offensive producer in limited ice time throughout his career. Drafted in the second round by the Penguins in 2015, Sprong has went on to become a journeyman NHLer and score near or above a 20 goal rate consistently. In 2022-23, Sprong scored an impressive 21 goals and 46 points in only 66 games.
Sprong will be an excellent fit for the Canucks, who needed to add an offensive threat. The left side of the top six for the Canucks currently includes Danton Heinen and Nils Hoglander, so Sprong will add to their offensive potential. For only $975K, Sprong could reach new offensive heights this year with the Canucks.
It's incredibly surprising that Sprong would sign for only $975K after producing offensively last season, especially when teams were reported to be interested in him, but this could be a larger bet on himself. If he has success this season, the Journeyman Sprong may be able to earn himself a contract with term next time around.
