Oilers prospects comment on decision to cancel on ice training camp
The Oilers organization chose to make a major change to their development camp this summer and players weighed in on how they felt about this different format.
\Interim general manager and President Jeff Jackson along with his staff felt that this year the development camp will be different which included learning about nutrition, bonding over different games such as pickleball and golf while not participating in on ice practice.
Mental health awareness was another topic of conversation which was incorporated into the sessions which has become a hot topic for many players and teams throughout the league as the stresses along with social pressures have become tougher over the past several years.
The Oilers also kept this camp smaller than usual. The players have been very receptive and enjoying this style which could become a trend across the NHL as the onus on mental health, nutrition and general team bonding can help teams grow their prospects together and form the next generation of Oilers.
With the general manager search continuing, the Oilers are in standby as they prepare for training camp which is set to Begin in September.
