During a recent episode of Oilernation Every Day, the hosts have pointed out that he was a goal scorer of 41 goals at one point in his career and is now barely able to get any shots on goal.
They also brought up the point that Arvidsson has been sheltered somewhat against the criticism that fellow teammate Jeff Skinner has taken as he too has not played well all year and has been a healthy scratch at times during the season.
Last summer, former Oilers interim general manager and current president Jeff Jackson forged ahead and signed Arvidsson to a two-year $8 million contract holding a cap hit of $4 million per season.
Many around the fan base felt the Oilers may have scored a player who has been a strong goal scorer during his career and had hopes that he would be finding his scoring touch again.
The 31-year-old right winger has played 35 games this season and has scored six goals with ten assists for 16 points and is a + 9.
Over his past five games, he has only registered one assist and he has seen his ice time continued to dwindle as he only played 11 minutes and 4 seconds against the Seattle Kraken on January 27th.
The Oilers are still in their homestand and have two games remaining as they face off against the Detroit Red Wings and then the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Oilers remain at the top of the Pacific division with the Vegas golden Knights directly behind them by one point.
The team is hoping for a strong finish as the entire NHL is preparing for a two-week layoff with the Four Nations face off set to begin on February 12th which will stretch through February 20th.
This break will be well needed for the Oilers and every other team in the NHL as many players who have been injured will have a chance to heal and be ready for the stretch run.
