Sportsnet responds to Luke Gazdic's rant against Canucks fans
A few days ago, Sportsnet analyst and former Oiler Luke Gazdic appeared on a podcast and tore apart Canucks fans for online behaviour.
Canucks fans were outraged by Gazdic's rant and many wrote to Sportsnet demanding the company take action. Instead, they've replied to just one complaint in support of Gazdic.
»Luke is relatively new to broadcasting on the national stage, and having millions of people watching him every night comes with an elevated level of scrutiny. As Luke was preparing to appear on the podcast, he received vile, personal attacks toward himself and his family on social media.»
«Luke's response on the podcast was an emotional one and he made the mistake of taking what some people said to him online and generalized it about the entire Canucks fanbase. He understands his conduct was inappropriate and we are confident it won't happen again.»
Two days ago, Gazdic appeared on the OilersNation Everyday podcast and spoke for a minute about the vile comments he's received from some online trolls on the playoffs. To hear that he just received some comments explains the passionate rant from Gazdic, being a response anyone would have in the same situation.
Gazdic played 136 games for the Oilers between 2013 and 2016, getting some time at the very beginning of the McDavid era in Edmonton. After that his hockey career didn't last long, but now at just 34 years old, is becoming a favourite amongst the broadcast crew - excerpt for maybe Canucks fans. This rant and the fan outrage will be nothing in Gazdic's broadcast career, it will just be a short mistake that he'll learn from.
