During an interview with Jason Gregor on the Jason Gregor show, former unpopular Oiler defenseman Tom Potispoke about his time with the Oilers organization and the holdout contract that soured the relationship with the fans.

The 47-year-old was drafted by the Oilers in 1996, in the third round, 59th overall. He spoke about how the Edmonton fans had turned on him after he had a contract holdout that occurred in his first year.

Poti never won back the Oilers fans after holdout

"I had a contract hold out with Kevin Lowe when he was in his first year as a GM. I don't think the fans ever forgave me for that, and that was really the end of my time in Edmonton. I really enjoyed it there. We had a great group of guys, and it was great playing in a hockey market," Poti on his time with the Oilers.» Former Oiler Tom Poti

His playing time with the Oilers organization stretched from 1998 through 2002. At that year's trade deadline, the New York Rangers acquired Poti and Rem Murray in exchange for Mike York add a fourth-round choice in the 2002 entry draft.

Poti was a productive member for the Oilers as he was always between 20 and 40 points per season with his best gold production of 12 during the 2000- 01 season.

Poti remained in the Eastern Conference till he retired

From 2002 till the day he retired in 2013, Poti had remained in the Eastern Conference where he played for the New York Rangers, New York Islanders, and the Washington Capitals. He played 824 games in the league, with 69 goals and 258 assists for 327 points and had 588 penalty minutes.

Tom Poti got screwed by the fans. He was not a perfect player, but he was a very solid dman. He also was very sensitive so for the fans to pile on him sucked.

Even though the fans gave him the Bronx cheer because of his holdout, it's clear that Poti enjoy his time with the Oilers and could speak well of it even after 15 years or more.
