It's a massive development for the contract talks between Nylander and the Leafs, after it seemed like the two parties may be unable to get a deal done. After a strong start to this year from Nylander raised his contract demands, it was unclear whether the Leafs could commit to an even higher raise than expected. Now, it seems like GM Brad Treliving sees just how important Nylander is to the team.
This season, Nylander has scored 17 goals and 48 points in 34 games, coming off an incredible season last year as well wherein he scored 40 goals for the first time. Drafted by the Leafs 8th overall back in 2014, Nylander has become a home grown bona-fide star for the team.
