According to OilersNation, Connor McDavid was playing through an abdominal injury that will require offseason surgery, and Leon Draisaitl played through a broken rib and finger.
According to a follow up report from Zach Laing of OilersNation, Draisaitl suffered the broken rib in Game 1 against the Canucks after a hit from Tyler Myers. To play that long through that much pain shows what a warrior Draisaitl is.
Connor McDavid had some Herculean efforts this playoffs to drag the Oilers to the Final, but was noticeably affected by an injury in Game 6 and 7, scoring no points and registering two shots. Leon Draisaitl has been significant struggling through the entire Cup Final, and plenty of his missed shots would be explained by a broken finger. Not to mention the intense pain from a broken rib.
The Oilers didn't disclose the injury status of any player last night, and likely will not until locker room clean out day in a few days. Now with a shortened offseason, the team needs to turn its focus to resting, recovering, and being ready for next season. Hopefully McDavid gets his surgery as soon as possible, giving him the most time to recover.
Even heading into Game 7 after tying the series, the odds were stacked against the Oilers to actually win the miracle comeback. Still, this team showed character and talent like never before, and there's no doubt amongst the players or the fans that they will be back competing for the Stanley Cup again next season.
