As an NHL hockey fan, it makes me smile when I hear a former player who has been away from the game for quite some time has decided to Try the sport they love once again. Hearing the story of Jaromir Jagr who is well over 50 years old now still playing for his team that he owns and still being effective is quite remarkable.

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman, 50-year-old Freddie Brathwaite, who was a former NHL goaltender, signed an AHL PTO with the Henderson Silver Knights to serve as a backup goaltender.

It's not the first time Brathwaite has done this. He serves as goalie coach for the team and he suited up a few years ago when he was 48.

Brathwaite worked for four NHL teams. He was born on November 24th, 1972 in Ottawa ON. His playing career stretched from 1993 through 2014 and he was undrafted. Brathwaite was always known as a sturdy backup for the teams he played for.

He played 254 games, with 81 wins 99 losses and 37 ties. He had a 2.73 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
