The Edmonton Oilers were the kings of the 80's winning four Stanley back then loaded with so much talent. Names like Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri, Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Esa Tikkanen just to name a few.
Tikkanen's playing days are long gone but it seems he has a bigger battle on hands now. The former Oilers Legend is now facing criminal charges in his home county of Finland:
Reports say Tikkanen is facing criminal charges for aggravated tax fraud.
According to court documents, the offences are alleged to have occurred from 2015 to 2019 and involve money Tikkanen made abroad. Tikkanen denied committing any crimes,
"I have not committed any offence, it is a matter of disagreement with the tax authorities," Tikkanen told reporters in Finland.
Apparently according to the media out of Finland Tikkanen has had $178,000 worth of his assets seized by the authorities in Finland, but that was later reversed. As of now there's yet to be a official court date set for Tikkanen's hearing.
Tikkanen is one of the best players to ever come out of Finland and helped paved the way for the next generation of players from Finland.
