Big Issue Holding Erik Karlsson Back From Being Traded to This Canadian Team
The San Jose Sharks aim to trade Erik Karlsson this off-season after an impressive 2022-23 campaign.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are a preferred destination, according to sources, with the potential to land Erik Karlsson, but the Leafs are hesitant to 'retain' Nylander at this moment.
The big Domino here is Nylander and Toronto. I believe the Sharks like the Leafs package the most, but so far only Pittsburgh and Carolina have actually figured out ways to make the money work. The Leafs can't consider this without moving Nylander and unfortunately for them, everyone knows this, here is no immediately rush yet.
The Penguins and Hurricanes are also pursuing Karlsson. According to Hockey Insider Eklund, the holdup is the Leafs' desire to retain Nylander. If no deal is reached soon and Karlsson remains with the Sharks, the situation could escalate.
For now, the main contenders for Karlsson appear to be the Penguins and Hurricanes.
