Biggest free agent in sports history could be signing in Canada
Currently, the Edmonton Oilers are blessed to have biggest and best star in Connor McDavid, and to have signed him long term. Anytime there's a big free agent star available in sports, it's always speculated that they'll elect to play in the United States when they can. However, now the biggest free agent in sports history could be changing that.
According to multiple MLB sources, the Toronto Blue Jays are among the finalists to sign the two-way baseball superstar, Shohei Ohtani.
Ohtani, 29 years old, came over from the Japanese pro leagues to dominate Major League Baseball as both a top end pitcher and batter. Joining the Blue Jays, Ohtani could add to an already dominant pitching staff, and a much needed power boost to their lineup.
But this could even impact the NHL in serious ways. Rogers, who owns Sportsnet, is making a pitch to Ohtani worth over $600M, and is leading to speculation that Sportsnet could cede the NHL rights to Bell to save money.
If Shohei Ohtani does sign with the Blue Jays, it could be a colossal moment for Canadian sports, and Canada as a destination for top free agents.
