"My kids haven't seen me play in three years & they're little, so they probably don't remember anything. It was kind of a special night for me."
On his PTO Brandon Sutter impressed against the Jets as he continues his recovery from long COVID. He got emotional.
He was also acutely aware that he was playing for his job, attempting to make a comeback in the NHL after a lengthy hiatus. If Sutter could rediscover his form, this signing might turn out to be one of the best PTO signings in the NHL.
Throughout his career, spanning four NHL teams, he had played 770 games, scoring 152 goals and providing 137 assists for a total of 289 points. His experience alone would justify the investment if they decided to retain him. Furthermore, he would offer much-needed depth down the middle, complementing McDavid and Draisaitl's presence.
Unfortunately, the Oilers lost their first game 2-1 in a shootout, and they will be back on the ice for another match against the Jets on September 25th, with the game set to start at 8:00 PM.
