As new ownership takes over an NHL team, big news is spreading about a potential head coaching candidate.

Elliott Friedman of the 32 Thoughts Podcast reported that the Ottawa Senators were destined for a new coach as a result of a group of investors.

"I don't know what Steve Staios [the president of hockey operations] and Michael Andlauer [the owner] think of Patrick Roy, but one of the investor groups was ready to appoint Patrick Roy as head coach. That's the decision they would have made had they taken control of the team!"- Elliotte Friedman

One of the investor groups was prepared to appoint Patrick Roy of the Ottawa Senators if they ended up buying the team, according to NHL Insider.

Hence, if Friedman says it now, it lends credence to the fact it might have been possible last year.

However, his name is still being mentioned in Ottawa regarding the head coaching position. When the team decides to move on from D.J. Smith expect his name to be seriously considered once more.

IF DJ does get axed. Claude Julien and Patrick Roy would be at the top of the shortlist of candidates for the job

Claude Julien is also mentioned, but Patrick Roy seems to be emphasized more than any other name.

Won't that make the battle between Ottawa and Montreal that much juicier?!
