During the start of the 2023-2024 regular season, the Toronto Maple Leafs have struggled to meet the expectations of their fans and front office.

While the defensive struggles are real, the offense core is on fire thanks to Auston Matthews.

Due to Timothy Liljegren's injury following a dirty hit by Brad Marchand, the team has been struggling defensively.

While the trade deadline has passed, the team will look to add talent from another rival in Alberta: The Calgary Flames.

Two defensemen have caught their eyes and they are interested in making a deal.

Elliotte Friedman described how Toronto is interested in Calgary Flames' Chris Tanev and Nikita Zadorov in a recent episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast.

In light of the Flames' upcoming rebuild, this would be beneficial to both teams.

I think they are looking for D you know the one I can see is Zadorov, & I'll bet you this if they can find a way to get Zadorov & Tanev, I bet you they would do it.

I bet you they would do both of them If Calgary was willing to do that I really believe it Now, I'm not saying it's gonna happen, but if you show me a path where that could occur, I could see it.

It may be necessary to deal one of their top prospects, Fraser Minten or Nick Robertson, to make the deal happen, as this would provide Toronto with veteran leadership and some toughness on the blueline, sorely lacking since Luke Schenn left.

Both of these players could help the team reach its goal of winning the Stanley Cup.
