In October 2022, the Vancouver Canucks acquired Ethan Bear and Lane Pederson from the Carolina Hurricanes for a 5th-round draft pick. Since then, Bear has been a consistent presence on the Canucks' blueline, averaging over 18 minutes of playtime per game and participating in 61 games this season.

Unfortunately, Bear will be unavailable for the majority of this season due to the re-aggravation of a shoulder injury he sustained four years ago in Bakersfield.

Davidson : He aggravated the shoulder at the Worlds but he has been dealing with this since playing in Bakersfield (4 years ago).

Ethan Bear agent Jason Davidson : The doctors are glad we chose surgery, after the results of the MRI, it was best to get it done now.

This injury occurred during the World Hockey Championship, where Bear was eager to compete but had to exit after a severe hit.

Given the Canucks' current salary cap predicament, it seems improbable that they will retain the talented young defenseman.

He is due a qualifying offer of $2.2 million after next season, or the Canucks might choose to extend him and place him on LTIR to allow for his recovery.

Let us all hope for the best for this promising player.
