Flashback: Desharnais takes down the Habs' Tank
When rookie Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj burst onto the scene of the NHL, two things were known of him his physical size and his appetite to fight.
In the 2022-2023 season, the six foot four 238 pound defenseman has played a total of 51 games scoring five goals, with eight assists for 13 points and holds a - 9. The stat that sticks out for this man is his penalty minutes which are 101.
Unfortunately, the young defenseman's season has come to a crashing halt as he will require season-ending surgery to his shoulder after sustaining the injury while fighting against Edmonton Oilers defenceman Vincent Desharnais.
After watching the play it appears that Xhekaj seemed hesitant to fight Desharnais, however after a few seconds he decided to join in and tangle with him. As soon as the fight was over the Montreal defenseman skated straight to the bench and was complaining of pain.
