It is considered to be the third-highest level of professional hockey in North America, behind the NHL and AHL. Many former goons eventually wind up in this league, where the majority have more penalty minutes than points.
In the game between the Allen Americans and the Fort Wayne Komets on Thursday, players got into a fight after the play was blowndead. Mikael Robidoux, a 23-year-old undrafted player, decided to repeatedly cross check his opponent, resulting in mayhem and 30 penalty minutes being assessed.136 penalty minutes were handed out in this one game alone.
The Allen Americans' head coach complained to the referee about what he believed to be poor refereeing. You can see for yourself how he left the game by smashing his suit jacket against the ice after being ejected, it was entertaining to say the least.
With 136 penalty minutes in one game, the East Coast Hockey League doesn't seem to be slowing down at all, and I'm sure there will be plenty more intriguing situations in the future. Follow us at Oilersdaily.com for more.
