John Tortorella Announces That He's banned His Players From Using IPads
Coach Tortorella is known for his questionableapproach to the game and his short fuse when dealing with the media. The NHL has added additional technology behind the benches in recent years to enable players tomonitor videos of their shifts and to support coaches during the replay challenge part of the game.
Tortorella did, however, make an intriguing decision in Tuesday night's 5-3 win over the Washington Capitals. Behind the bench, Tortorella made the decision to ban iPad usage and possession for good.
Although technology may certainly benefit the athletes, Tortorella makes a compelling case. Hockey is one of the few games where the next shift may change the outcome of the whole game, therefore it can be quite helpful to maintain the players' focus on the upcoming shift rather than on the previous one. One player, though, seemed to adore the iPads.
