Lightning coach Jon Cooper penalized for making contact with referee
Moments ago, Tampa Bay Lightning head coach Jon Cooper was penalized for making contact with an official on the ice. While in a heated debate about a call near the bench, Cooper moved his arms to emphasize a point and made contact with the referee, who didn't take kindly to it. Immediately, the referee made the call to penalize Cooper.
It's especially bizarre watching the clip, as the official clearly tees Cooper up for contact by placing his arm directly in front of Cooper's chest.
The penalty was only a two minute bench minor, thankfully instead of the referee overreacting with an ejection. Still, Cooper's nudge was clearly an accident, making this another weird example of the gross overreach and egos of officials in the NHL currently.
