There has been an update on trade talks between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens, according to NHL Insider Darren Dreger.

Elliote Friedman reported previously that the two discussed goalie Jake Allen.

"Darren Dreger said this morning on TSN690 that the Habs are keeping an eye on the young forward from the Oilers organization, Xavier Bourgault (1st rd pick in 2021)."

Canadiens GM David Dreger says they are keeping an eye on Xavier Bourgault, who the Edmonton Oilers selected in the 2021 draft.

I will be reasonable:

Jake Allen
Jordan Harris

for

Jack Campbell
Xavier Bourgault
2024 1st (top 2 protected)

Xavier Bourgault, get ready to come home.

In the event Allen is traded to the Edmonton Oilers, you might consider Bourgault part of the deal.

The Quebec-born AHL forward Bourgault has four points in seven games. This would be a homecoming for the native French-Canadian.

It is exciting to gain a competent goaltender, but it is also costly if Bourgault must be parted with.

Jake Allen vs Xavier Bourgault one for one?

Darren Dreger a dit ce matin sur les ondes de TSN690 que les #GoHabsGo avaient un oeil sur le jeune attaquant de l'organisation des Oilers, Xavier Bourgault (1er choix 2021).

Bourgault was drafted 22nd overall in the 2021 NHL Draft and his first season in the AHL saw him register 13 goals and 21 assists for 34 points in the AHL in 62 games.
