Man arrested after planning a mass shooting at the Stanley Cup Finals
A potential tragedy was averted in Las Vegas as police arrested a man who had planned a mass shooting at the Stanley Cup Final.
Matthew DeSavio was apprehended just hours before game 5, and during his arrest, he made disturbing remarks referencing the Mandalay Bay shooting.
According to authorities, DeSavio had posted alarming messages on Facebook, expressing his intent to harm people attending the event.
"As patrol officers were placing Matthew DeSavio into the patrol car, DeSavio declared several excited utterances asking if anyone had seen his Facebook posts yet and that the Knights need to win by a certain amount or he will do a repeat of the Mandalay Bay October 1st shooting," police said.
One of his posts even mentioned a desire for a repeat of the Mandalay Bay massacre.
"I'm coming for you guys tonight and I hope you get every f-king police officer in Vegas Golden Knights there to defend you!" one message said, according to police. "Hope Sin City is ready for the Mandalay Bay massacre part duex."
In another post, DeSavio reportedly wrote, "I warned y'all October 1st 2017 was just a preview. DIE TOURISTS DIE!
WARNED Y'ALL" police said.
When police investigated his home, they discovered a significant arsenal of weapons. Thanks to a tip from an individual who had been stalked by DeSavio for years, the police were able to apprehend him before any harm was done.
