Member of The Oilers Resigns and Signs With Canadian Organization
Until today, Steve Staios was thought to still be a part of the Edmonton Oilers organization. His joining the Ottawa Senators organization was announced.
A move that surprised all of us today was Staios' joining the Senators to ensure the rebuild is successful.
Statement from #Oilers CEO of Hockey Operations Jeff Jackson re: Steve Staios.
With the announcement of Staios as the Senators' newest employee, newly minted owner Michael Andlauer is making short work of the competition.
With this announcement, Staios will become President of Hockey Operations for the Ottawa Senators. He will oversee the operations for the team and is already familiar with Andlauer which might make more sense, given the quick move for Staios.
Formerly, Staios was the Hamilton Bulldogs' president in 2015 and then GM from 2016 to 2022.
As a defenseman for the Vancouver Canucks, Boston Bruins, Atlanta Thrashers, Edmonton Oilers, and Calgary Flames, Staios has played 1,034 NHL games. In 2014, he was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs as a player development adviser, and in 2015, he supported the interim coaching staff.
