NBC Chicago Broadcaster reveals true reason why Blackhawks terminated Perry's contract
In a shocking interview from earlier today, NBC Blackhawks broadcaster John Scott dropped a bombshell report of details into the incident that cause Chicago to terminate Perry's contract. According to Scott, while the team was in Columbus, Perry drank too much and made an advance towards an NBC broadcaster.
Corey Perry was a model citizen in the NHL for like, 18 years. He made a mistake in Columbus one night, he drank too much and he made a pass at a staff member who worked at NBC. And then Chicago, in the environment that they live in now, if there's any hint of anything like that, they just get rid of everything. As an employee of NBC Sports himself, Scott could know if there was an incident between Perfy and one of his colleagues. Scott addressed concerns that Edmonton may be bringing character issues into the locker room with Perry, dispelling those thoughts by assuring that Perry is a model citizen' and respected veteran of the NHL. Scott believes Perry made only a minor mistake, and didn't deserve to be so harshly punished by the Blackhawks. However, in context of what the organization just went through, the Hawks had to be precautionary in terminating Perry's contract.
If Scott's report is true, and the NHL was unable to find any other reason why he would be unable to return to the NHL, then Perry was treated unjustly by the Blackhawks. For what sounds like a relatively minor incident not involving a team employee, contract termination was too far of a decision.
This may turn out to be a blessing in disguise for Perry, who now seems to be an incredible fit with the Oilers. He can bring a veteran presence and playoff experience, depth scoring, and his classic worm-like agitator role to the bottom six forwards. Already on a thirteen game win streak and now adding a future hall of famer in Corey Perry, the Oilers are feeling unstoppable.
