According to TSN hockey insider Pierre LeBrun It seems a trade is brewing in Montreal where the team has three goalies and general manager Kent Hughes is preparing to move one.
The rumors around Jake Allen have been swirling for the past several weeks. As a veteran goaltender who has had playoff experience with the St Louis Blues, he brings some stability to a team looking for help.
The 33-year-old is playing on a two years $7.7 million deal is signed for another season with a cap hit of 3.85 million. The Canadiens are starting to see that Cayden Primeau is becoming the player they hoped for which now makes Allen expendable and would help them with their rebuilding plans.
The Oilers are just in a mess of a situation as Jack Campbell's career has flatlined with Bakersfield, Stuart Skinner is burning out due to high volume starts, Calvin Pickard has played barely any games in the NHL over the last three years. With a tight cap situation, the Oilers will need to be creative in order to solve their problem.
Secondly, The Hurricanes are currently in a pickle as they just waived Antti Raanta, Freddie Andersen is in no shape to start with no timeline on his return and Pytor Kochetkov still finding his consistency. This receipe does not bode well for their second half.
Finally, The Devils chose to take a gamble on Akira Schmid and with Vitek Vanecek which has proven to be less than ideal. The team was pegged as a Cup favourite, but those claims are evaporating quickly.
It's expected the goalie market will continue to heat up as more teams look around. With that being said, I do feel that Jake Allen will be traded in the very near future.
