Nail Yakupov Reveals What Went Wrong in the NHL
Dropping The Gloves host, John Scott, recently interviewed former 1st Overall pick, Nail Yakupov.
During their interview, Nail discussed his time in the NHL and what went wrong during his short career in a league that hyped him up.
Because English was not his native language, he said he had an overwhelming draft experience to begin his career. In light of the fact that Brian Burke thought his interview with young Yakupov was garbage, he attributed his answers to being scared and homesick, who can blame him?
In response to Scott's questions, Yakupov stated that despite being a 1st round pick in the NHL, none of the players knew how to create a winning culture.
Matt Hendricks, Boyd Gordon, and Ryan Smyth would try to help the Oilers, but nothing worked. His first season in the league was marked by his inability to speak English.
It sounds like Yakupov's entire NHL story was a series of unfortunate events in the great scheme of things.
