Ken Holland had to make some tough decisions to create more depth in the team, including clearing Klim Kostin and Kailer Yamamoto's contracts from the salary cap.
This move enabled Holland to sign three new players: Connor Brown, Drake Caggiula, and Lane Pederson. Brown, who was recently with the Washington Capitals, will join the Oilers for the league minimum of $775K as part of a contending team.
He has worn the number #28, previously worn by defenseman Ryan Murray.
Drake Caggiula will also return to the Oilers from Pittsburgh, signing for the league minimum and choosing to wear the number #8 on ice, which Kyle Turris previously wore.
Lastly, Lane Pederson, who spent most of last season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, will wear Devin Shore's old number #19 as he joins the Oilers for the league minimum. Holland's additions have provided much-needed depth to the bottom six, a weak point in the Oilers' previous season.
