The Oilers' current offseason plans certainly will be interesting to watch. With the disappointing loss in the second round to the Vegas Golden Knights after having a great second half and going down the stretch, the team currently has four unrestricted free agents and three restricted free agents to contend with.

According to capfriendly.com, the team has a projected $5.97 million in cap space. He has 17 players on the roster. It will make general manager Ken Hollands' job difficult to find a way to ice a team of 23 players with such little cap room.

It is possible to achieve this by signing players who you already have who you feel will take an important step forward in their careers. Jason Gregor has reported Oilers forward Ryan MacLeod as one of these players.

Gregor is reporting that MacLeod wants to do two things to improve his game for next season. One is to shoot the puck more often the other is to be more physical.

The 23-year-old centre just completed his $2.5 million contract and held a cap hit of $834,167. He played 57 games, scored eleven goals with 12 assists for 23 points and was a + 4. He also held 18 penalty minutes. During this year's playoffs, he had five assists in 12 games.
