Teams have been working diligently over the past 24 hours to determine who will stay with their respective teams and who will depart. Any players who did not cut will either be placed on waivers or traded.
Today, the Oilers placed three more players on waivers, including Ben Gleason, Lane Pederson, and Raphael Lavoie.
The Oilers are taking a significant risk by putting Lavoie and Pederson on waivers, as another NHL team may claim them.
General manager Ken Holland and head coach Jay Woodcroft had high hopes that Lavoie would secure a spot in the lineup after multiple attempts, showing readiness for the NHL. Unfortunately, this has not materialized, and there appears to be no room on the roster at this time.
Pederson had a strong showing during training camp but seems destined for Bakersfield unless another team selects him. Given his strong performance and cost-effectiveness, the Oilers might lose him for nothing if a team is looking to bolster their bottom six forwards.
It remains to be seen how the Oilers will navigate the waiver wire process, as they might even choose to select another player whom they believe could assist them.
The Oilers will kick off the season on the road against the Vancouver Canucks on October 11th at 10:00 PM.
