The Edmonton Oilers made the unfortunate decision to trade Grant Fuhr in 1991, and Glenn Anderson was moved along with him.

A dynasty that brought 5 Stanley Cups to Edmonton fans ended in the 1990s. As they fell like dominoes, they lost The Great One, Jarri Kurri, Paul Coffey, Mark Messier, among others.

It was on this day in 1991 that legendary Edmonton Oilers Grant Fuhr and Glenn Anderson were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After the 1990 Stanley Cup win, a brief feeling of solace turned into grief as the team they loved was dismantled.

As a result of his absence at training camp, Glenn Anderson was eventually dealt with. In a surprising decision, Anderson the great power-forward decided to stay on the beach instead of skating. Over the course of 12 years, Anderson played 845 NHL games, scoring 187 playoff points.

Initially, the veteran requested $700K AAV and the team would find him a new home.

The loss of Fuhr, who was part of the great tandem with Bill Ranford, would be devastating. Despite playing 432 games for the team and winning 226 of them, Fuhr had been going through a torrid emotional affair with the city before his winning streak began.

The Oilers received in return Vinny Damphousse, who played only 80 games, fell out with management, made 38 goals, and scored 89 points for the team.

In 1992, the team was swept by the Chicago Blackhawks in the playoffs, before Damphousse moved on to Montreal.
