There are several checkboxes the Oilers need to look at to improve their team's chances for a long playoff run and a shot at the Stanley Cup.
Recently, Sportsnet hockey insider Elliot Friedman, feels that the Arizona Coyotes and the Oilers are discussing a deal to bring Nick Bjugstad and Shayne Gostisbehere to the Oilers.
The 30-year-old center, who stands at 6 foot 6 and carries a weight of 209 pounds is having a modestly good season with the Arizona Coyotes. He has played 50 games, has scored eleven goals with 10 assists for 21 points, and holds a + 7. He's playing on the second line with Lawson Krause and would give the Oilers depth up the middle that they need with defensive flair.
As for The Ghost, as he is widely known, Gostisbehere was struck down with an upper-body injury against the Anaheim Ducks and is currently sitting four to six weeks out. It remains to be seen if the Oilers would be willing to take on his $4.5 million cap yet for the remainder of the season and have him ready for the playoffs. Both players currently are sitting in the final year of their deals.
No word on what would return to Arizona, but I would feel that Jesse Puljujarvi would be part of that return. He currently has a contract cap hit of $3 million.
