VIDEO: Player suspended for 13 months after throwing a Jacob-Trouba like-hit on a referee
Casper Gillberg of HC Vita Hästen is facing a significant suspension of 13 months following a disturbing incident during a #HockeyTrean game. The 22-year-old Swedish player body-checked a referee into the boards, resulting in the official breaking his arm.
Known for his imposing stature at 6'5" and 227 lbs, Gillberg has a troubled history. Last season, he received a 9-game suspension in #HockeyEttan for an illegal flying elbow to the head. During the same season, he topped the penalty minutes chart in #HockeyEttan (East) with 66.
In the 2021-22 #NAHL season, he accumulated 124 penalty minutes in 33 games.
The hefty 13-month ban, extending until December 31, 2024, raises questions about its fairness. This incident sparks concerns about player conduct on the ice, emphasizing the necessity for stringent measures to ensure the safety of both players and officials in the game of hockey.
