Will the Edmonton Oilers change up their logo for the Heritage classic?
On October 29th, 2023 at Commonwealth Stadium, the Battle of Alberta will be played as part of the Heritage Classic game this season.
There's your Heritage Classic logo the Oilers will be wearing. Heavy Edmonton Mercurys influence.
This was the site of the first Heritage Classic game that took place on November 22nd, 2003, where the Montreal Canadiens battled it out against the Edmonton Oilers in a game to remember.
Unlike the usual orange and blue colors of the Oilers, this time around, the team will be calling up a team from an older era of hockey.
As a result of this, they will be referencing the amateur hockey team called the Edmonton Mercurys in 1952 who won a Gold Medal at the Olympics in Oslo.
There was a car dealership in Waterloo that used to sell Mercury cars, which gave the team its name in 1950.
