The Calgary Flames continued their roster tear down yesterday after trading Andrew Mangiapane, and now reports are indicating that the team is exploring trades for Nazem Kadri.

Recently, David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reported that the Flames are shopping Kadri in a trade, with the expectation he'll waive his no-move clause for a contending team.

Kadri signed a 7 year contract for $7M a season just two years ago. Since losing Tkachuk and Gaudreau, the team has been on a continued downward spiral, and if the trade Nazem Kadri, they'll be entering a full fledged rebuild.

At 33 years old last season, Kadri had yet another productive season, scoring 29 goals and 75 points in 82 games. Still his contract has significant term left on it, and may age especially poorly - which makes sense for the Flames to offload it. However, a Cup Contending team may not be able to accommodate his entire salary, so retention may have to be part of the deal.

Off the bat, Leafs fans and Avalanche fans hoped for a reunion with Kadri, but trade talks are so preliminary that interested teams haven't even been revealed yet. Still, any cup contending team in need of a centre will certainly be interested in Kadri as a player that can bump a team over the jump towards a Stanley Cup.
