Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Chevaldayoff has revealed the cost to acquire Nikolaj Ehlers, which will be a 1st round pick and a young forward.

The Jets are preparing to move on from Ehlers and rumors have circulated around the web for some time. The Oilers are currently going through changes in the organization which certainly begs the question: should the Oilers attempt to land him?

The Oilers have a need for more scoring wingers in their lineup, specifically to play with Leon Draisait. There's been rumours the Oilers could move off Evander Kane to clear salary cap space, and adding a player like Ehlers would certainly give the team a boost offensively.

Ehlers is on his final year of his deal and has a cap hit of 6 million dollars and the Oilers would need a way to open some salary as the team faces a cap crunch. Moving Kane with some salary retention might be needed to land Ehlers.

This offseason will be fascinating for both organizations as they look to keep their window to win open while trying to navigate the big contracts that are about to hit.

Unrestricted free agency day is set to open on July 1st at 12:00pm.
