The Vancouver Canucks are going to be one of the busier teams in the NHL in this off season, and now may be trading Filip Hronek at the draft.

The conversation came to light when Satiar Shah sat down with Dan Riccio and Irfaan Gaffar During the connects central on Sportsnet 650. Hronek Did not have a productive playoff however, he had a career year with Canucks as he had 43 assists and 48 points.

«I'm not going to be as forceful as saying he's guaranteed to be traded by the draft if he doesn't sign, but I'd say there's a really good chance that a trade happens at the draft if he doesn't sign an extension,» Shah said on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old defenseman standing at six feet 190 lbs was selected by the Detroit Red Wings in 2016, in the second round 53rd overall. Having played 81 games this season, he scored five goals with 43 assists for 48 points and was a + 33 with 38 penalty minutes.

These kinds of numbers will help his case with a contract extension and pay raise as defensemen continued to be a premium across the league. He also holds the coveted right-handed shot which many teams continue to look out for.

Closing out his current deal of three years and $13.2 million, he holds a $4.4 million cap yet and will likely be north of 7 million per season as teams line up to sign him.

The Canucks will need to get ahead of this and try to trade his rights to a team to acquire a draft pick or a prospect if a deal cannot be struck between them.
