According to NHL insider and 32 thoughts podcaster Elliotte Friedman, the Vancouver Canucks appear to be out of the running to sign Chris Tanev.

Rick Dhaliwal had Friedman on his show and Friedman felt that the Canucks will be out of the running for Tanev. Canucks GM Patrik Allvin will have a very busy summer as Vancouver's situation isn't ideal. The Canucks have 15 players signed and 24,000,000 in cap space but have several defensemen that are not signed like Tyler Myers, Nikita Zadorov, Filip Hronek and Arturs Silvos. All players have earned raises and there may not be enough money to aquire him back.

Friedman feels that this market will be hot for Tanev as he, along with other defensemen throughout the league are at a premium especially a right-handed shot which will help bolster his payday even though he is going to be 35 years old. There's speculation that he may come in around three years and 4.5 to
$5,000,000 per season which would be out of the Canucks price range.

He has finished his deal of four years an $18 million which held a cap hit of 4.5 million per season. The Dallas Stars have 13 players signed for next year at only have $16.2 million in gap space which makes it highly unlikely that Tanev will return to his team. Thomas Harley, Nils Lundkvist And Scott Wedgewood are some of the players that the Stars will need to lock up.'

Tanev was a household name during the trade deadline as numerous teams lined up to try to acquire his services. In the end, the Dallas Stars won the deal and Tanev helped the stars yet to the third round for the playoffs.

When July 1st comes, it's likely that many teams including the Edmonton Oilers will take a run at Tanev as he has shown he still can play at a high level even at an older age.
