Moments ago, the Columbus Blue Jackets announced that fans will be able to gather on September 4th for a candlelight vigil at Nationwide Arena to honour the Gaudreau brothers.

Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau were fatally struck by a drunk driver in New Jersey on the night of August 29th. The tragedy has completely shaken the NHL, and tributes have been pouring out from fans, players, media, coaches, and managers. This candlelight vigil will be a great opportunity for the fans to come together and mourn the loss of one of their sports heroes.

The legacy left by Johnny Gaudreau is simply incredible. Over 764 career games between the Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets, Gaudreau made so many fans by dazzling with his speed and skill, and inspired so many smaller sized players that they could be stars too - which left an even bigger effect on young kids. His infectious and youthful energy for the game was felt even by his opponents in games, which earned him the loving nickname of Johnny Hockey'.

The amount of support pouring out for the Gaudreau family is heartwarming to see, notably including a GoFundMe for Matthew Gaudreau's wife and unborn son. For many fans, this loss still doesn't feel real, like a tragedy this profound wasn't possible - for the family, it must be so much more. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Gaudreau family in this incredibly difficult time.
