Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews team up in Germany for special event

As the NHL offseason comes to a close, players will begin ramping up their on-ice activities to get ready for training camp.

Connor McDavid and Auston Matthews teamed up today in Germany for a skate together and a special appearance with the Red Bull Munchen Hockey Club in the DEL. At the moment, it's unknown if this event is connected to the NHL's European Media Tour or a separate event. Regardless, it's an awesome moment for the German team and hockey fans to see these two superstars make an appearance.

Matthews and McDavid may have an on-ice rivalry as two of the top players in the NHL, but off the ice they seem to be genuinely good friends. Even when they were on the ice together, they were snapping the puck around with some actual chemistry. Given that the event is in Germany, it's a little surprising that McDavjd is there with Matthews instead of Leon Draisaitl, who must be busy with something else - potentially negotiating his new contract.

This may be the final event in a busy offseason for Connor McDavid. Captain's Skates for the Oilers typically start in the first week of September, meaning McDavid will be hopping on a plane and heading back to Edmonton this week. There's only one real consequence from this piece of news: NHL hockey is right around the corner again!
