The Edmonton Oilers have four players currently projected to make the Team Canada roster, more than any other team in the NHL. Connor McDavid, Zach Hyman, Evan Bouchard, and Stuart Skinner are all likely making the team.
It should be no controversy that those Oilers skaters would make the team Canada roster after the incredible season they've had. However, some hockey fans are taking exception with Stuart Skinner being named the projected starting goalie.
While Skinner may not have the talent of elite Canadian goalies in the past like Carey Price and Patrick Roy, he legitimately arguably the best Canadian starting goalie in the league. Skinner is an elite goalie when he's on his game, but can occasionally struggle to maintain it consistently. Really, it's more of an indictment that Canada has not been developing elite goalies recently.
After their incredible performance in this year's playoffs and an amazing effort in the Stanley Cup Final, every Canadian should feel confident with these four leading the roster in international play. They'll be up against a tough test with Team USA, who's got their own impressive crop of superstars, and slightly better goaltending.
