Hockey World Mourns the Loss of Former Winnipeg Jet Jason Circone

Earlier today, it was announced that former NHLer and Italian national team legend Jason Cirone Has passed away at the age of 53 after his battle with cancer.

Cirone began his hockey career in 1984 with the Quebec International pee-wee hockey tournament which was in Don Mills Ontario. He spent time with the Ontario Hockey League as he had played for the Cornwall Royals and the Windsor Spitfires.

In the 1989 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Winnipeg Jets in the third round, 46th overall. He managed to play three games with The Jets during the 1990 one 1992 season but in August of 1993 he was traded to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Dave Tomlinson.

Cirone made his mark in hockey in the IHL and on the international front as he played for several American teams including the Los Angeles Ice Dogs, Kansas City Blades and the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Cirone went overseas and played for the Italian HC Asiago in the Italian Ice Hockey League. For six seasons once in 1992 and then from 2001 to 2006 he was a solid contributor offensively and became a fan favorite. He also participated in the 2006 Turin Olympic Winter Games as a member of the Italian team.

He played 190 games for Asiago, scored 92 goals and 194 points.
