At 38 years old, Perry is still an effective player, and highly sought after across the league. He's played with five different teams over the last six years, which shows that he's still desired by teams in his veteran years.
Insider Frank Seravalli is now saying that Perry would like some stability, and would likely prefer to return to the Oilers for another season, if the next Oilers GM is willing to sign him.
Seravalli's comments seem to indicate Perry is having no thoughts of retirement, and would actually prefer to stay in Edmonton for continuity. Ken Holland is expected to retire at the end of this season, so as long as the next Oilers General Manager sees a fit for Perry and believes he can be effective in his age 39 season, it seems he would easily re-sign with the team.
Perry's been a great fit in his 26 games as an Oiler this season. He's brought some secondary scoring with six goals and also a much tougher, physical look to the bottom six. Of course, he's been causing some problems between whistles too.
If the Oilers can go on a long run in the playoffs or even win the Stanley Cup, it would go a long way to bringing back depth players at affordable prices. It would be especially incredible if the Oilers can re-sign Perry, and he can give them one more good full season next year.
