In the days since the Oilers lost the Stanley Cup Final, new began to break that Connor McDavid suffered an abdominal injury which may require surgery.

Now, TSN's Ryan Rishaug is reporting that McDavid will not need surgery, and will be ready for training camp.

Connor McDavid will not require any off season surgery and will be ready for the start of training camp.

It's extremely positive news to hear that the league's best players will avoid going under the knife and a potentially long recovery period to getting back on the ice. Without McDavid for a long term it's hard to say the Oilers would even make the playoffs, so this is extremely good news for fans.

When speaking to the media yesterday, Knoblauch was reluctant to confirm reports of McDavid's injury and recovery time. However, he did confirm that Leon Draisaitl was hurt in the rib and hand, lining up reports that he broke both of those bones through the playoffs.

McDavid had one of the greatest playoff runs of all time, coming just short of Gretzky's record of points in one playoff, but by the last games of the Cup Final he looked totally different. The Panthers held him to zero points in Game 6 and 7, and only two shots. Every time he was one the ice, he didn't have the same execution on his bursts on the attack, and just couldn't push through the injury to buy a goal.

If McDavid was healthy in the final games, maybe the series would've ended differently. That doesn't matter now, it's time to prepare for another run next season.
