A video clip surfaced yesterday of Connor McDavid screaming at his teammates in the locker room, and he commented on the video after a preseason game.

The video came from the NHL's new behind-the-scenes TV series, and showed Connor McDavid reaming into the Oilers and demanding more from them in a tense moment.

That's not good enough. This is the Finals! Dig in! Right now!

The clip went viral as soon as it was posted, so of course Oilers reporters had to ask McDavid his thoughts after his first preseason game. McDavid has always been a bit of an awkward person in public, and he admitted that although he doesn't want too much attention, the behind the scenes access is a great way to grow the game.

»You're gonna see us at our most vulnerable . . . They shot things in our most intense moments, most meaningful moments. They shot it, they may as well use it. There's lots of emotions there obviously, and I think fans will see that . . . Hopefully it's worth it. It's not the easiest thing to let some media in at some of those moments.»

«It was never my plan to be the star of the show. It was never my plan to be the star. I think we wanted to dip our toe in, but you know, here we are headfirst off the diving board. Ultimately, everybody wants to grow the game.»

McDavid also revealed that the clip was taken after Game 2. The Oilers went on to lose the next game, but then mounted a fantastic series comeback that came up just short in Game 7.

Mcdavid has had his fair share of awkward moments while growing into a leader in the NHL, and while he's still clearly not comfortable with all the media access, he has defined himself as a great leader now. After being so close to the Stanley Cup last season, McDavid and the Oilers will be more motivated than ever to win it all this year.

Unfortunately, the Oilers lost both preseason games tonight. One bright spot was McDavid scoring his first of the year. It was a classic McDavid goal, with him speeding down the middle of the ice to split the defence and beat the goalie. He's still just warming up, and he makes it look so easy. Gear up Oilers fans, hockey is officially back!
